What are PRP injections?
Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) injections contain your own natural blood platelets and can be used to reduce chronic pain and joint dysfunction. After removing a sample of your blood and processing it to extract the platelets, your provider injects the platelets back into your body at the injury site.
Platelets contain wound healing and clotting factors that can speed up your natural healing response. PRP injections also provide additional blood flow and nutrients to injured tissues to relieve pain and inflammation.
What are Hyaluronic Acid injections?
Hyaluronic acid injections are used to treat knee pain caused by osteoarthritis (OA) in patients who have already been treated with pain relievers (e.g., acetaminophen), NSAID’s (e.g. ibuprofen, Advil, Motrin) and other treatments that did not work well.
Hyaluronic acid is similar to a substance that occurs naturally in the joints. It works by acting like a lubricant and shock absorber in the joints and helps the joints to work properly. This helps to prevent invasive procedures for up to 6 months or more.
